Sarpy County Hosting Mock Mass Shooting Exercise Drill on May 28
On Thursday, May 28, 2015 the Papillion-La Vista School District along with the Sarpy County law enforcement agencies, all other Sarpy County school districts, fire and rescue, emergency management, Sarpy/Cass Health department and numerous other agencies are partnering together to conduct a mass school shooting exercise drill. This drill, known as Operation First Bell, will test the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) recently developed and implemented throughout Sarpy County. This mass exercise will include over 200 role players, victims transported to the hospitals and a complete school evacuation and reunification. The entire exercise will take place at Papillion-La Vista South High School. It is important for parents and community members to be aware this is only a drill.
Sarpy County is the first and only county in Nebraska to implement the SRP. This mass exercise will be one of a kind in testing a county-wide response. Student safety is a top priority and participating in an exercise such as this allows us to be certain we are prepared if anything ever happens. If you have any questions, please contact Annette Eyman at 402-537-6200.

Avoid the "Summer Slide"! Read! Read! Read!
Did you know that when kids
don’t read over the summer they are likely to fall behind when they head back
to school? These learning losses are often called the “Summer Slide,” and our
school has made it a priority to keep our students’ skills sharp by encouraging
them to read all summer long.
Our school has signed up to
participate in the Scholastic Summer Reading
Challenge, a free online reading program that
invites children to log their reading minutes to help set a new world record
for summer reading. We have set an individual
goal for our students to read 1,000 minutes each by
August 15. With
your help, we can do it, and your child will earn a free
pizza coupon from Pizza West and a reading celebration in September if he/she
reaches the goal! Current 6th
graders will earn a free Monarch spirit item (we wouldn’t forget about you)!!
The fun begins on May 4,
2015, and ends on September 4, 2014! Your
child’s username and password information was sent home in Monday folders.
A paper copy of the reading log is also included in case you are unable to log
the minutes online. Just bring the log back in August so your minutes
invite you to learn more about the Scholastic Summer
Reading Challenge at www.scholastic.com/summer
