Papillion-La Vista School District
Invites All Parents to a Parent Workshop…
How the Rest Was Won: How to Make Sleep Time Successful

Is bed time or nap time a constant struggle? When children won’t stay in their beds, want to sleep with mom and dad, won’t lie still for naps or just refuse to fall asleep, it affects their ability to listen and cooperate. On top of that, everyone loses sleep! Do you want tips on how to deal with these situations? Then don’t miss this parent workshop!  The presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Papillion Junior High, located at 423 S. Washington Street, Papillion.  Representatives from Behaven Kids, an organization in the Omaha metro that focuses on building positive behaviors in children will make the presentation. This FREE Workshop will help teach parents the proper environment to enhance sleep readiness and join an in-depth discussion on the appropriate discipline to use when a child misbehaves at nap or bedtime. The workshop will focus on sleep time for preschool students, but the tips given will be useful for children of all ages. There are only a limited number of spots so pre-registration is required! For more information or to register, contact Kristy Feden at 402-514-3243 or kfeden@paplv.org. To view the flyer, click here. *Note this was rescheduled from February 21st. Individuals previously registered, will need to re-register to guarantee a spot.

PLSD Number One in Nebraska Class A School Districts on State Writing!

Students in the Papillion-La Vista School District (PLSD) scored number one on the statewide writing test for 4th, 8th and 11th grade when compared to all Class A school districts in the state. This is a huge accomplishment and the results are credited to a very hard working staff. The state writing test has been around for 4th grade students since 2001. It is given annually to all Nebraska students in 4th, 8th and 11th grade. This year, the test for 8th and 11th grade was changed to an online format and the scoring and proficiency targets were revised making the test more challenging. Even with the higher standards the 8th and 11th grade students out- performed their Class A counterparts and scored 18 points above the state average.

The elementary school scores ranged from 94% proficiency to 100%. Three elementary schools scored 100%. Golden Hills Elementary scored 100% for the third year in a row. Parents should be proud! Writing has been a focus in the PLSD and the results of that focus are reflected in the scores.
