Changing a Child's School or District - Student Transfer Procedure
For various reasons families occasionally want their child to attend a different school or school district from the one they currently live.  If you are one of these families, the Papillion-La Vista School District (PLSD) offers several options.  The PLSD believes parents should have a choice to attend a school that best meets the educational needs of their child.  The District accommodates this parental choice based on available space at a school and classroom.

Who can transfer? - Three Opportunities to Transfer

Students can apply to attend any school of their choice based on three categories:

Internal Transfer students live within the PLSD and want to attend another school building in the PLSD.

Open Enrollment students live within the Learning Community (LC) and want to attend a school building in the PLSD or somewhere in the LC.

Enrollment Option students live outside the LC and want to attend the PLSD or another school district in the state.

***Note: Any student currently attending the PLSD as an Enrollment Option student does not need to reapply.

How is it decided who will be allowed to transfer into the PLSD?
Capacity limits are set annually for each school building and will be adjusted each year for growth.  If capacity is not reached, students are allowed to transfer based on set priorities.

Additional Guidelines

  • Transportation is only provided for Open Enrollment students who qualify for free and reduced lunch or who improve the average socio-economic status of the school building they are assigned and reside over 1 mile from the school.
  • PLSD residents and current LC option students can apply for Open Enrollment for transportation.  However, they will have to wait until the Open Enrollment selection date and risk that capacity has been reached.
  • Internal Transfers and Open Enrollment students must reapply at each level (elementary, middle, high).
  • Capacity limits allow the district to provide parental choice and still manage the growth in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Internal Transfers & Enrollment Option (outside LC) applications will be accepted until July 1st, if capacity is available.
  • Open Enrollment applications may not be accepted after March 15th filing deadline unless a move occurs.
  • All capacity limits include net annual increase in student enrollment.
  • This new student transfer policy does not impact students who are currently attending a Papillion-La Vista school as an Option or internal transfer student.  Any current internal transfer or Option students do not need to do any paper work, their current status will remain.
