State of the Schools Report
PLSD Continues to Excel!

The State of the Schools Report for Nebraska is released by the Nebraska Department of Education each fall.   This report includes demographic information about each school district; student achievement data in the area of math, reading, writing and science; and many other facts and statistics.  The PLSD continues to do very well. This success is attributed to the hard work and dedication of Papillion-La Vista teachers!  Thank you teachers for your hard work!

What tests are comparable among districts?
  • NeSA – R  is the state reading test. This test was given for the first time in 2010 to students in 3rd -11th grade. It is the same test for all students in the state of Nebraska.  Students continue to score above the state average all grade levels.  Improvement was shown at all grade levels except 8th grade.
  • NeSA – M  is the state math test. This test was given for the first time in 2011 to students in 3rd -11th grade. It is the same test for all students in the state of Nebraska.  Math is a target area for improvement and the PLSD would expect to see improvement as soon as next year.
  • NeSA – W is the state writing test.  This test has been given since 2002 and it is the same test given for all students in the stat of Nebraska. Students in the have improved significantly since the first test was given. The percentage of students proficient remains in the mid to upper 90%. Writing has been a focus in the District and the results of that focus are reflected in the scores.
  • Standardized Achievement Tests – These are national standardized tests designed to compare local students to a national sample of students who took the same multiple choice test.  However, there are many types of standardized tests.  For the past two years the PLSD has given the Terra Nova for 5th and 7th grade students.  Students continue to score above the 50th percentile.  Elementary students have shown improvement over a two year period.
  • ACT is a national high school exam. It is voluntary for students but required for college entrance.  Approximately 76% of the PLSD seniors take the test.  PLSD students continue to score above the state and national average and near the top of metro schools.
