IT Academy

Who should attend the IT Academy?
Are you interested in computer repair? Do you want to know more about computer networking? Then this academy is for you!

What is the IT Academy?
This academy will have two parts. The first will be an online/lab class offered during the summer. Coursework will be available online and labs will be scheduled every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 pm – 5pm and every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 am-9 am. Students will be required to finish all labs by the start of school. This class will be facilitated and the labs monitored, by Bill Pulte, PLSD Director of Information Technology. In addition to earning a credit toward graduation, this course will be taught in conjunction with Metropolitan Community College. At the completion of this course students will have an understanding of what it takes to earn an industry standard certification.

What is a typical day?
All assigned reading and tests can be completed at home.  Students will need to find 20-25 days to be available for labs and instructor guidance.  Students are not required to attend every day.

Grades: 10-12
Schedule: Year I: (Summer) BU24 PC Support/Mnt. w/A+Certification. BU23 Computer Assistant Intern. Year 2: BU23 Computer Assistant Intern
Prerequisites: Application
Transportation: Students must provide their own transportation to the internship.
Credit Options:  High School elective credit and Metro Community College credit.

How do I apply?
To apply for a PLSD Academy program, students must complete an online application which can be found at Applications for the 2015-2016 school year will be available from November 4-11. Beginning on the evening of November 4, students will need to log in to the District website and then navigate to the academy application. It will be a flyout under the maroon bar "academy programs." The application form will time out after 30 minutes. The academy questions have been provided under Academy Programs - How to Apply so students can write their essay questions ahead of time and then copy and paste into the application.
