Contractor at Golden Hills Helps Students Learn About Construction

As construction takes place at Golden Hills Elementary, the teachers have found it to be a great learning tool for students.  In October, the Golden Hills construction contractor Aaron Brunner was introduced to the students and they had the opportunity to ask him questions about what was going on with the construction in the building. As students see him in the halls, they continue to ask him questions.

Recently, as part of their science curriculum, kindergarten students have been learning about how wood changes. Contractor Aaron was once again invited to talk to the students about saws and how they change wood. While there he discussed proper safety procedures for using saws and the protective equipment you have to wear. He then demonstrated the use of an articulating saw and a hole saw.  Aaron also allowed children to operate the “trigger” on the saw while wearing their own safety goggles!
The staff at Golden Hills will continue to create learning opportunities from the construction that is happening at Golden Hills. Throughout the year students will learn more about construction, tools and what is needed to be successful in that profession.
